MrB received an award from the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press at the organization's annual dinner on Tuesday.
We attended the event last year, too; little did we know how much more important the Reporters Committee would be by the next dinner. That's because the Reporters Committee and its staff attorneys provide free legal resources to protect the First Amendment rights of journalists in the U.S. As I'm sure you've noticed, the Trump regime is waging outright war against journalists. Examples include:
Well done, MrB! Congratulations also to the other awardees: Marty Baron, the executive editor of the Washington Post; Kathleen Carroll, former executive editor of the Associated Press and new chair of the Committee to Protect Journalists; and the media & First Amendment practice of Davis Wright Tremaine LLP.
I wore a vintage Ossie Clark dress to the dinner.
- Multiple journalists were arrested and charged with committing felonies while they were covering Inauguration Day protests in Washington, D.C., in January. (The charges against four of the journalists were dropped in January. Charges against a fifth were dropped in February. Apparently two of them still have charges pending.)
- On May 9, a reporter was arrested in West Virginia after trying to get an answer from Tom Price, the secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, about whether domestic violence was going to be a pre-existing condition under the proposed health-care legislation.
- Ten days later, a Roll Call reporter was roughed up by security at the Federal Communications Commission when he tried to ask a commissioner a question.
- This month, the New York Times reported that, at a meeting in February, Trump had urged the now former FBI director, James Comey, to jail journalists who publish classified information.
What Wendy Wore Dress: Ossie Clark (I suspect I got this on eBay in 2006, but I'm not 100% on that) Shoes: Prada (possibly 2004)
Here's the back view. [caption id="attachment_36550" align="aligncenter" width="498"] Click to see a photo of the same dress in 2009.[/caption] My right-hand woman Eryn calls the color of this dress "pistachio green." I've always thought of it as "mint green." Eryn has a better eye for color than I do, so I'm inclined to go with her choice. In addition to not being mint green, this 1970s Ossie dress is not in mint condition. It's not bad for its age by any means, but it's not pristine either. In one of the YouTube videos I have coming up and the companion blog post, I'll show you some close-ups of the flaws on this dress as I talk about what kind of wear and tear you might see when shopping for vintage clothes.
